Carlux france11/19/2023 ![]() It has great views to the village of Carlux (pronounced Carlou) and its Château (entry f.o.c). We're already looking forward to returning next summer.… The gites are very well run - there is a lovely, warm friendly atmosphere about the whole place. Massage and reflexology are both available too, so plenty of pampering. There is a yoga/pilates class under the trees on Wednesday morning, which I really enjoyed (and a "boot camp" on Thursday evening too). The badminton tournament was great fun the pool is perfect (again with stunning views of Carlux) with the benefit of trees to provide shade on hot afternoons. There are so many activities to enjoy in the area (canoes, bikes, tree-top adventures etc etc), not to mention a couple of great evenings out in nearby Sarlat. The gite was perfectly clean and had everything that we needed. We were slightly nervous that they might not enjoy themselves as much as they had, but we really needn't have worried! In fact, they say this is the best holiday they have ever had (needless to say, we will return next year!) The gite we stayed in (Anemone) overlooks the beautiful village of Carlux - there is nothing quite so lovely as waking up and opening the French doors in the bedroom and watching the sun rise over the rolling countryside and the extraordinarily pretty village. Our two youngest children asked us if we could return to the gites this summer as we hadn't been for several years and they remember really enjoying our holidays there. We really loved the location, the gites and the Dordogne area in general. We first stayed in the Gites at Carlux in 2005 when our youngest son was a baby and returned several times as our family continued to grow. We found the gite well situated for the main Dordogne sites and enjoyed many day trips to several caves, a river cruise, gardens, chateaux's and other towns/villages although a car is an absolute must in this area. Some days we would all walk from the gite down into Carlux to visit the local stores, boulangerie etc which was great. There is a really nice, heated swimming pool too. Our young son enjoyed his regular morning walk from our gite to collect breakfast of fresh croissants and baguette from reception and he also made good use of the play equipment on site (various swings, slides, a wendy house and a little push-walker car that he became very fond of very quickly!). The site itself is also lovely, peaceful, well maintained with friendly staff. As one other reviewer has mentioned, the photos on the website actually match the reality which is very refreshing. and is in very good, clean order throughout. It contains everything you might need in terms of cooking equipment, cutlery, towels etc. The gite is well situated with a lovely, uninterrupted view over the pretty village of Carlux. Unfortunately the weather (mid-Sept) was largely against us which was a shame, but we couldn't fault our gite, or the gite complex and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We have recently returned from our stay in 'Giroflee', one of the 2 bed gites at Les Gites De Carlux, with our young son.
